Sims 3 Review
I mentioned part of the reason I haven’t blogged much recently was because I was playing Sims 3. And I gave people a hard time for their reviews of the game so I might as well try to review it as best I can.
4.5/5 Stars: An excellent improvement of an already great game
There is very little to complain about when it comes to the Sims 3, but we can start with the negatives:
- High requirements: I have a very basic computer and it runs the game kinda slowly…and ‘Create a Sim’ is very difficult to get through because the characters are black silhouettes. Certain floorings are also black limiting my choices somewhat.
- Careers: I was very impressed by the improvement of capabilities at work with oppurtunities etc. but I wish there were more jobs, i.e. a career in education going to work at the school (a building already in place) I was dissapointed that you can’t fake sick like you could in Sims 2, it really hurts job preformance to miss a day of work.
- $$$: After paying 50$ for a game I was very upset that I would have to pay for certain custom content. I understand that EA is just trying to make money but it would be easier to just put those objects in a stuff pack.
There is a lot of good in the Sims 3…well its kept me busy for about 19 days with about 3 all nighters.
- Personalities: No more neat outgoing active etc. now those quirky sims can be anything from a klepto to a pyro. These personalities dominate the way sims think, socialize, and spend their days.
- Lifetime Wants: These were put in the earlier Sims 2 expansions giving the sims a real goal in life. Originally they were randomly given based on personality but now you get to pick them. Your artistic bookworm can dream of excelling in both writing and painting.
- Object Placement: We are no longer restricted to a square system of placing objects. You don’t need an entire end table just for a tiny alarm clock. Objects can also be placed on a slant creating very realistic sitting areas.
- Neighbrohood Unity: You can now zoom out and see your entire town, as well as visit your friends. The townies now grow up just like your main household. Your childhood schoolmate might be a future co-worker! You can also have one family member at the spa, while the other is at the library, and another one is at home.
- Mood: Moodlets are genius…now a sim can truely appreciate the world around him. From a park to a library to a beachside villa the sim gets a boost. Now sims can get happy from eating a good meal and sad from having a bad party. It replaces memory quite well because it directly impacts the sims’ lives.
- Little Things: Improvements to gameplay such as choosing a time and a dresscode for a party, ability to move the mailbox and garbage can to other parts of the lot, oppurtunities instead of senarios based on chance
